Jenrette Internships in Historic Preservation

Providing young scholars with practical opportunities

The Jenrette Internships in Historic Preservation provide real-world experience to graduate students in Clemson University’s Graduate Program in Historic Preservation by matching their interests with ongoing projects sponsored by historic preservation organizations, including the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation. Previous interns have conducted research, performed conservation treatments on archaeological objects, learned about administration and programming, and completed preservation work on historic structures.

Chloe Martin is the 2023-24 Jenrette Intern. Chloe grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia where she developed a love of preservation through volunteering, and then later working, at the Colonial Williamsburg Brickyard. She graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2022 with double-major in Historic Preservation and English. She is currently a rising second-year student in the Clemson MSHP program, continuing to pursue and expand her passion for Historic Preservation through exciting documentation, fieldwork, conservation, and research projects.

Joyce Pope was the 2022-23 Jenrette Intern. A native of North Carolina, Joyce is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received both her undergraduate and law degrees. Before attending the Clemson Master’s in Historic Preservation program, she worked with nonprofits and continues to serve on the boards of Dix Park Conservancy and the UNC Health Foundation.
